Briggitine Fudge BoxRating:

There are few things in this world more delicious than chocolate, and we bring you a rather rich example of that delightful treat.

The Brigittine Monks in Ammity Oregon support themselves by making what they call gourmet confections, and I simply call tasty. The particular variety we have today is  Chocolate fudge Royale - without nuts.  I am partial to fudge with nuts, but this particular tasting was being shared with my children who do not like nuts.  I don't know where they got that from, but it is unfortunately true. Rest assured the good monks do make this flavor with nuts, as well as other flavors (more about that below).

All six of us sat down yesterday to taste this.  Our three year old listed a variety of other flavors that made us scatch our head (cinnamon, cherry, apple, lemon, gum).  The only thing she mentioned that made sense to the rest of us was that was like an M&M.  That was an item my oldest two agreed with.  This fudge is definitely more of a milk chocolate flavor.  The rest of the reviews were similar enough that I will provide a single picture.

This was definitely a smooth and creamy texture.  One person thought of it like chewing pudding.  It was definitely rich - so a single 1 oz square goes a long way.  It was sweet as fudge should be, but not overpoweringly so. Some fudges can make your mouth ache they are so sweet - not this one.  The sweetness was just right. Because it is more of a milk chocolate, the chocolate flavor is not as strong as we initially expected - providing a lightness that is not common with fudge.

After the initial taste, the kids thought this perfect with milk, while I definitely appreciated it with a hot cup of coffee.  In my opinion, the combination of the smooth fudge with the hot coffee was delightful, though both my wife and I missed the nuts we sacrificed so that we could share with the children.  All in all a worthwhile experience.

If you are interested in buying a box, you can find a place to order online here. They have several flavors including: Chocolate Fudge Royale (with and without nuts), Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge, Chocolate Amaretto Fudge, and Pecan Praline Fudge Royale.  They have a few other things, and a wider variety at the monastery - so if you are in Oregon be sure to visit them.

I discovered this fudge through a new organization called Fearless Fundraising. They sell fudge to schools, churches and other organizations at a substantial discount.  They sell these in cases of 24 boxes at a price that allows organizations to make a good profit.  It may be worth a look.
